From its hilltop location in southern Bali,
Amanusa (peaceful isle) is blessed with
tropical island views. The Bali Golf and Country club unfolds immediately below
Amanusa. From the rolling green hills, the view runs north to the sea and beyond to
volcanic Mount Agung.
Despite its exclusive setting, Amanusa may be Amanresorts most central hideaway.
Bali’s international airport and the beach world of Kuta are both about 20 minutes from
Amanusa; Denpasar, the island capital, is 30 minutes from the resort.
On a clear morning, the horizon is full with Bali’s mountains. To the northeast, the island
of Nusa Penida is visible. In the east, just a few hundred meters away, the sea is cut with
a barrier reef made for surfing.
Accommodations
Amanusa’s 35, thatched-roof suites are set behind paras-stone walls. Each suite is
divided into a large living area and a spacious bathroom. The living area includes a
four-poster bed, a table for private dining and a TV and stereo system.
There’s also a terrace with an oversized day bed under a canopy; each suite also
features a garden forecourt. Amanusa’s light-filled bathroom comes with a marble-tiled
tub all but enclosed in a glass wall recessed into a reflection pond.
At one end of the bathroom, windows overlook the Bali Golf and Country Club. At the
other, sliding wood doors lead to an outside shower built into a high stone wall.
Eight suites have private swimming pools. Deluxe suites come with views of the sea or
the golf course. The Amanusa Suite has a private swimming pool and a particularly
favorable location.
Facilities and Services
The Terrace restaurant, with its sweeping views to the golf course, the Indian Ocean and
the mountains, offers Indonesian and Thai cuisine.
The Restaurant specializes in Italian cuisine; seating is also available in an outdoor
courtyard by the swimming pool. The open-air bar offers dramatic views to the southern
peninsula, the sea and the mountains on the horizon.
The Gallery and Gift Shop keeps a select range of Balinese and Indonesian craft and
antiques. The adjacent library, a cool retreat for browsing, specializes in books on
Indonesian culture and art.
Amanusa’s lavish, 30x22-meter swimming pool is bordered by unglazed batik pots, a
trellis of flowing bougainvillea and a two-storey, paras-stone wall. Amanusa’s two,
all-weather tennis courts are floodlit for evening play.
Massage is available in the privacy of your suite, either indoors or out on the balcony.
You can also enjoy a massage poolside or from one of the shaded Beach Club bales .
Body treatments, as well as facials, pedicures and manicures, can also be arranged.
Amanusa’s Beach Club is just a beach-buggy ride away from the resort. The Beach
Club’s nine bales are fitted with mattresses and roll cushions and face a coral reef about
150 meters out.
Snorkeling equipment is available. Light meals and refreshments are served at the dining
bale. The Beach Club is also the setting for regular candlelight barbecues, with four
tables set down on the sand by the sea.
The Amanusa boardroom can accommodate up to 30 people for business meetings,
weddings, birthday parties, family reunions and other private functions. Beyond the
boardroom, Amanusa can make just about any aspect of the resort available for
business groups.
Along with the resort’s two restaurants and bar, alternative dining and cocktail venues
can easily be organized. On a day free of business, picnic hampers and day trips can be
arranged to cater for up to 15 people. Small business groups can also hold their own
corporate tennis or golf challenge. Amanusa will be pleased to arrange a company or
group tournament at the Bali Golf and Country Club.
Activities
Amanusa can organize a variety of personalized island tours, including a country drive
into the Tabanan Regency, the rice basket of Bali. A visit to the ancient Luhur Uluwatu
temple, an easy drive from Amanusa, is another popular excursion, particularly for
sunset. A variety of sailing craft, including a luxury sailing catamaran, can be chartered to
visit Nusa Lembongan, about 20 kilometers off the coast.
Golf enthusiasts are favored with a priority reservation system at the Bali Golf and
Country Club, one of Asia’s finest 18-hole, championship courses. Guests at Amanusa
can sign all charges to their hotel account.
A traditional gamelan orchestra and dancers perform poolside every full and new moon.
For small groups wanting a deeper insight into Balinese life and culture, Amanusa will
arrange presentations covering a range of topics, from art and history to architecture,
dance, music and craft.
Climate
Bali, located about 8 degrees south of the equator, welcomes visitors with a warm
tropical climate year-round. The weather is particularly pleasant from June through
September, when the trade winds blow, and always cooler in the mountain areas.
Humidity is highest during the November-through-March rainy season. Even in the rainy
season, however, the sun is rarely out of sight for long.
Amanusa is only a 20-minute drive from Denpasar airport. Complimentary airport
transfer is provided. While visitors from most countries do not require special visas,
passports must be valid for at least six months from date of entry.
